EASTS

EASTS (Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies) is a society founded in November 1994 as a result of a landmark meeting held in Kawana, Japan with transportation experts from 13 countries or regions in East Asia. In September 2019, representatives of the transportation studies community from nineteen countries or regions, namely Australia, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, joined to become members of EASTS. Since then, EASTS has encouraged more countries or regions to become members and encouraged more individuals from member countries to get involved in activities organized by EASTS.

One of society’s main activities is organizing a biennial international conference. Since the first conference was held in Manila (Philippines) in 1995, 14 subsequent conferences have been held in and around East Asia, providing a great opportunity for conference participants to enrich their knowledge and exchange their professional experiences. The conferences encourage increased interaction and communication among academics, researchers, and practitioners involved in transportation activities. The last EASTS international conference, the 15th EASTS international conference, was held on 4-7 September 2023 in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

In parallel, the society publishes three publications, namely ATS (Asian Transport Studies), Journal of Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies and Proceedings of the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies. Information related to these publications is available on the EASTS website at www.easts.info, along with information on other EASTS activities.
